Ibiza: the soothing side to the party island

Posted by on Mar 13, 2013 in Travel guides | 0 comments

Some people still hear the word Ibiza and think of strobe lights and foam parties. That’s one side of the coin, true, but for those considering Ibiza holidays in 2013, there’s a whole other side to consider. In fact, increasingly on the Mediterranean paradise island, out-and-out hedonists are finding their numbers matched by those going to seek holistic and wellness treatments. And for good reason too.

Holistic treatments mean every aspect of the body’s needs – physical, mental and spiritual – are catered to in order to achieve wellness. Relaxation in a gorgeous setting is a big part of that, which is why Ibiza’s warm climate and gorgeous beaches are the perfect place to go. If you feel choked by the oppressive and polluted atmosphere of a city, the sight of the wave-flecked ultramarine sea and strolls through rambling white-walled hilltop villages are already half the answer.

Then again, you also want treatments to relax your body and mind. One of the best ways to get the most out of your holistic Ibiza experience is to book through a company that offers you a personal wellness consultant. At a one-to-one consultation on your arrival, your consultant will work out the best range of treatments from your first massage onwards. Expect brand name eco-products like Doctor Hauschka to play a significant role. And be prepared to spend plenty of time in a hammock, enjoying the likes of Japanese facial scrubs, native Ibizan clay scrubs, and Reiki energy treatments.

It’s not all about relaxation though. Or rather it is, but to relax best you also need to be active sometimes. From Pilates or Yogalates to Tai Chi, Chi Qong or percussion dance, the range of activities offered by qualified instructors on Ibiza is superb. Again, it’s possible to book in advance as part of a package deal. Alternatively, if you’re the type who likes to take things as they come, just turn up. You might make some friends and decide to go along to a class with them.

Just because you’re going to Ibiza for holistic not hedonistic reasons – it doesn’t mean you have to cut the socialising altogether!

Hooked on Lanzarote

Posted by on Mar 13, 2013 in Travel guides | 0 comments

Lanzarote in the Canary Islands is a sea, sun and sand destination that has been popular with tourists, especially the British, for many years. Its reputation is well merited since there are great holidays to be had there, none more so than one based around – wait for it – fishing!

I’ll tell you why fishing soon, but first, how to get there. Flights to the island arrive at the airport in the capital, Arrecife. On arrival a great option is to hire a car for the duration of your stay. A Lanzarote car hire comparison website will show you how you can obtain a vehicle for as little as £10 a day. Once you’ve got your transport sorted, head to the pretty seaside town of Puerto del Carmen. It’s just a short drive down the coast and the best location for a fishing holiday in the area.

Lanzarote

Now why should you base your Lanzarote holiday around fishing? Quite simple: because it’s fun. Landing a stingray, barracuda, dorado or tuna is an unforgettable experience. Anyone can do it. Also, after a day out at sea, you’ll return to port in the late afternoon raring to go for that evening meal, perhaps even dining on one of the fish you’ve landed. You’ll deserve it – if you go to Lanzarote and fish you are merely doing what has been the livelihood of the islanders themselves for hundreds of years.

Convinced yet? I hope so. So how to go about it? Well, sport fishing tour operators offer complete packages which can include exclusive boat hire for your party, your hotel, and evening meals in partner restaurants. Alternatively, if you prefer a more ad hoc arrangement, join larger excursions on a day-by-day basis, at a fixed price per person (usually between 50 and 85 euros).

Whatever you do you should be guaranteed a welcome from the experienced local fishermen who run these tours. Despite the macho image of sea fishing, the operators in Lanzarote are very family-family. They welcome all ages including children onto the boats, and youngsters will love nothing more than scrapping with a stingray (perhaps with Mum or Dad standing by just in case things get hairy).

And if you’re worried that fishing is just hours trailing a rod in the water waiting for something to bite, don’t be. The seas off Lanzarote have plenty of life, and anyway, the boats nowadays are loaded with fancy sonar equipment to help find them.

Are you hooked on the idea yet?

Australia: The How to Guide!

Posted by on Mar 5, 2013 in Travel guides | 0 comments

For many, Australia is but a pipe dream that many people won’t experience as it’s such a beautiful country, full of rich culture, heritage and ask any Melbournian full to the brim with sports (if you like that sort of thing).

For this article I wanted to offer up tips on how to get to Australia and how you can afford to with a little bit of self control as well as what airlines to use and when to book flights!  So I suppose the first bridge you have to cross when you have made your mind up when looking at booking a big trip like Australia is how to finance it; so, some decisions need to be made!

First of all plan ahead and put some numbers down like what you could realistically afford each month and stick to it and a good idea could be to embrace the route of applying for a loan; this could be especially handy if you are looking to go in the more immediate term – and if so, good for you!

Australia

When I spoke to the travel agent I was given a handy piece of information – book your flights 10 months in advance as you will get them cheaper as these ones are ‘on sale’.  The best airlines that fly to Australasia are Singapore and Qantas and fly often from the UK.  A primary concern for people that fly to Australia from the UK is the length of the flight so check out this article for some handy tips to ease the jet lag and make the flight more comfortable for you.

Each Australian city has so much to offer.  Most of Australia’s residents live on the coast so beaches are a plenty.  I suppose you can tailor each city to your hobbies and what you love to do.  Sydney is a sun kissed Harbour City and has offers lots of boutiques and bars.  Melbourne, often referred to as Australia’s second city is mad on sport but also is also a place for art and fashion lovers.

Brisbane has recently been voted as the most desirable place to live in Australia with approximately 1,000 people moving their every week.  Of course there is Canberra, Australia’s capital city which is steeped in political history and there is also Perth which typifies everything Australia’s West Coast is all about.

So how much money is required when you visit?  Well, it does depend on how much money you plan to spend and what you need to do but a good ball park figure is $3,500AUD.  This will cover decent accommodation and it will also make sure that you have money for spending and eating as well as a car hire which is a must when travelling up the Australian coast.

Well I hope that this short guide has been a help on making your decision to visit Australia and safe trip!

Living The Life In The Caribbean

Posted by on Feb 28, 2013 in Travel guides | 0 comments

The Caribbean is a famous place, and everybody has heard about it. Of course, the majority of the younger generation has heard about it thanks to the Disney film, which was out a few years ago, but it still packs a punch in the hearts of adventurers and vacationers alike. There are many things to do there, and you will most definitely enjoy visiting. The number of offers you can find for this magical place is huge, and all you need to do is search a bit in order for them to be presented in front of you.

The first thing you should know about the Caribbean islands, is the fact that they are all quite exotic and will definitely bring about the adventurer’s spirit within you. As one might expect, this of course entails a certain sense of luxury, which is inevitable for resort places these days. You can go to one of the many bars and drink cocktails while the sun caresses your back, or you can dance it off in one of the discos. One thing is for certain – there is constant partying going on in this part of the world and it is waiting for you.

On the other hand, the hotels in the Caribbean are not too shabby either. Provided that you search for the right spot, you can have the vacation of a lifetime. All you need is a quick Google search, which will bring you a detailed list of all possible great hotels in the area. There you can enjoy a wide range of luxurious services, which will make your blood boil and will make you remember the whole ordeal for the rest of your life. This of course might be a bit pricy, but it is worth spending so much on a dream come true.

There are many packages, which travel agencies issue for the Caribbean as well and you should take them into consideration. There are wild discounts going on, and each day thousands of people aim to visit this magical place. Just pick a provider of your choosing and they will provide you with a comprehensive quote about all their offers. You might find something, which will cover all your requirements, and at the same time will prove to be ideal if you are running on sort of a tight budget.

The most important thing you should know if you are planning a vacation at the Caribbean is the fact that you should be very well prepared to wait. Patience is a virtue and you should make full use of it if you want to find the proper provider for the job. Just make sure you look thoroughly and ask your friends or some internet users at the forums. They will be able to guide you towards the ideal agency, which will make your dreams come true. Feedback is also essential in order to avoid scammers and this is what counts when setting up a perfect vacation.

For the author – Jessica Krueger, the Caribbean or Caribien as the Danish call it , is a paradise on earth and her most favorite travel destination.
